Government initiates various steps for promotion and facilitation of setting up of new industries across State/UTs

The Government of India, through the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and other central ministries, is fostering industrial development through policy interventions and initiatives such as Make in India, Startup India, PM Gati Shakti, National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP), National Industrial Corridor Programme (NICDP), Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, and the Indian Footwear and Leather Development Programme (IFLDP). Measures like the National Single Window System (NSWS), Project Monitoring Group (PMG), and liberalisation of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) policy aim to enhance the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB). Industrial Corridor Projects under NICDP include the Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area (SBIA) and the Dighi Port Industrial Area (DPIA) in Maharashtra. SBIA's Phase 1, covering 4,584 acres, has completed infrastructure works, with 2,620 acres allotted to 294 companies, including 100 acres to South Korea's HYOSUNG. Meanwhile, DPIA in Raigad district, with a US$ 644.4 (Rs. 5,468 crore) budget, is expected to generate 1 lakh jobs and attract US$ 1.41 billion (Rs. 12,000 crore) investment.

In addition, the IFLDP has allocated US$ 200.4 million (Rs. 1,700 crore) till March 31, 2026, for initiatives like the Integrated Development of Leather Sector (IDLS) and Mega Leather Footwear and Accessories Cluster Development (MLFACD) in Maharashtra. Other schemes include the Industrial Development Scheme (IDS) 2017 for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh, and the New Central Sector Scheme (NCSS) for J&K until 2037, with cumulative incentives of US$ 122 million (Rs. 1,034.82 crore) disbursed across all programmes. These efforts underscore the government's commitment to promoting industrial growth and regional development.
