Government Launches Project to Build National Digital Public Infrastructure for Tourism Sector

The Ministry of Tourism has partnered with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to develop the National Digital Tourism Stack, a national digital public infrastructure aimed at bringing tourism products and services onto a shared digital platform. Union Minister for Tourism, Mr. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, launched the project at an event held at Bharat Mandapam to mark World Tourism Day. The initiative aims to bring 23,000 tourism experiences and homestays onto the digital platform and make them discoverable, trustworthy and bookable by the end of 2028. Developed in collaboration with ONDC and supported by the International Centre for Digital Public Infrastructure Innovation and Advancement (ICDIA), the platform is intended to improve access to India's diverse tourism offerings.

The National Digital Tourism Stack will be implemented in phases as a collaborative initiative involving the Ministry of Tourism, states, Union Territories and industry stakeholders. Tourism Secretary, Mr. Bhuvnesh Kumar, said Artificial Intelligence (AI) will form the front end of the project, with the vision of creating a “One ticket, One pass” system that can bring different tourism services together in a single journey. The digital public infrastructure is designed to help tourists discover more destinations, travel with greater confidence, book and make payments conveniently and reduce paperwork. By creating a common digital ecosystem for tourism experiences and homestays, the initiative is expected to improve their visibility and accessibility while supporting a more integrated and technology-enabled tourism sector.
