The government has implemented various schemes for the upliftment of minorities especially for the economically weaker and lesser privileged sections of society, through several schemes under the Prime Minister’s 15 Point Programme.
The Minister of Minority Affairs, Ms. Smriti Zubin Irani, stated “Pre-Matric, Post Matric and Merit-cum Means based Scholarship Schemes for meritorious students from the notified minority communities are implemented by the Ministry of Minority Affairs under the Prime Minister’s New 15 Point Programme for the Welfare of Minorities. The merit list under Pre and Post Matric Schemes will be drawn based on income rather than marks.”
The schemes of the Ministry of Minority affairs covered under this programme are exclusively meant for minorities. Under the scheme, funds were sanctioned under the three scholarship schemes during 2014-2022 across 34 States/Union Territories, with a total of US$ 3.4 billion (Rs. 28,536 crores).
