The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to positioning India as the global hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications and AI-driven solutions, underscoring the country's growing role in the global digital economy. Speaking at the inaugural session of the Confederation of Indian Industry's (CII) Global Capacity Centres (GCCs) Business Summit 2026 in New Delhi, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Mr. S. Krishnan, said the Government has consistently adopted a positive and forward-looking approach towards AI, focusing on leveraging the technology to enhance productivity, efficiency and innovation across multiple sectors. He highlighted that India's long-term vision is to become the world's leading destination for AI applications and solution development by fostering innovation, encouraging technology adoption and strengthening the country's digital capabilities. The initiative aligns with the Government's broader efforts to build a robust AI ecosystem that supports economic growth, digital transformation and global competitiveness.
Addressing the summit, Chief Economic Advisor Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran noted that India now hosts around half of the world's Global Capacity Centres (GCCs), reflecting the country's strong talent pool and growing attractiveness as a global business and technology destination. He emphasised that India's success has been driven by its skilled workforce, which continues to support innovation, research and high-value digital services for global enterprises. The expansion of GCCs, coupled with the Government's focus on AI, is expected to accelerate the development of advanced technologies, strengthen digital infrastructure and create new opportunities in research, engineering and innovation. These efforts are expected to reinforce India's position as a global technology and innovation hub while supporting the country's ambition of becoming a leading centre for AI-driven solutions and knowledge-based industries.
