Gwalior to get Asia’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone with US$ 582.75 million investment

Gwalior is set to emerge as a major telecom manufacturing hub with the establishment of Asia’s first Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ), involving an investment of approximately Rs. 5,500 crore (US$ 582.75 million) and expected to generate more than 18,000 direct employment opportunities. Union Minister for Communications and Development of Northeastern Region Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia, inspected the proposed site at Shrimant Madhavrao Scindia Counter Magnet City (SADA) in Gwalior. The project is planned as a complete industrial ecosystem comprising 24-25 telecom manufacturing units producing telecom equipment and components. Around 170 acres have been identified for the first phase, including more than 90 acres in SADA and over 70 acres in the IT Park. The Department of Telecommunications and the Madhya Pradesh government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in July 2026 for establishing the TMZ.
Investor roadshows held in Delhi and Mumbai in August generated investment commitments of approximately Rs. 3,500 crore (US$ 370.42 million) and Rs. 2,000 crore (US$ 211.91 million), respectively. These commitments are expected to create around 14,000 and 4,000 employment opportunities, taking the total proposed investment to Rs. 5,500 crore (US$ 582.7 million). So far, 24 companies have initiated the application process to establish manufacturing units in the zone. The project includes a dedicated incentive package covering land leases, power, employment and production, along with measures supporting environmental sustainability. The Department of Telecommunications has also proposed a Common Testing Lab package worth approximately Rs. 500 crore (US$ 52.98 million). Connectivity through the Agra-Gwalior High-Speed Corridor, railway networks and Gwalior airport is expected to support the zone, while around 25,000 engineering students graduating annually could provide the skilled workforce required for the sector.
