As New Delhi aspires to increase defence exports over the next two years, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a state-owned business in India, revealed that it is in talks to sell its light-combat aircraft to at least four nations.

In addition to Argentina, Egypt, and Botswana expressing interest, Malaysia has shortlisted the Tejas light fighter jet for an order of 10 to 20 aircraft, according to Mr. C B Ananthkrishnan, Chief Managing Director, HAL. He made the announcement at a press conference during Aero India, the nation's largest aviation event.

He further said, “HAL is also in discussions to sell its light-combat helicopters to the Philippines. There is a lot of interest generated in the global aerospace market. Sooner or later, we will have a breakthrough order."
