Hikal Expands cGMP Pilot Plant to Strengthen Pharmaceutical Innovation

Hikal Limited has commissioned an enhanced current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP)-compliant pilot plant at its Research & Technology (R&T) campus in Pune, strengthening its integrated capabilities in pharmaceutical process development and clinical-stage manufacturing. The expanded facility enhances the company's ability to support global pharmaceutical customers across the product development lifecycle, spanning process development, scale-up, technology transfer and commercial manufacturing readiness. Designed to meet global quality and regulatory standards, the upgraded pilot plant will facilitate seamless transition from laboratory research to commercial-scale production, helping customers accelerate development timelines, improve process efficiency and generate high-quality materials for regulated preclinical and clinical programmes.
The advanced pilot plant enables the manufacture and supply of preclinical and clinical-phase development materials from a single innovation campus, fostering closer collaboration between scientists and engineers while reducing technology transfer timelines. The facility is equipped with reactors ranging from 20 litres to 2,000 litres, featuring stainless steel and glass-lined systems, advanced Hastelloy Agitated Nutsche Filter Dryers, and specialised capabilities such as cryogenic reactions, hydrogenation, high-temperature reactions and high-vacuum distillation. These enhanced capabilities provide greater flexibility to support a broad range of complex chemistries and pharmaceutical processes. The investment reinforces Hikal's position as a trusted development and manufacturing partner for global pharmaceutical companies while strengthening India's contract research and manufacturing ecosystem and supporting innovation-driven growth in the life sciences sector.
