Hindustan Zinc signs MoU with Group Nirmal to set up wire manufacturing unit in Rajasthan

Hindustan Zinc Limited, a Vedanta Group company and the world’s largest integrated zinc producer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Group Nirmal to establish a zinc wire manufacturing facility at its Zinc Industrial Park in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan. The proposed unit will manufacture zinc wire products using Hindustan Zinc’s Special High Grade (SHG) zinc and cater to sectors including infrastructure, renewable energy, automotive and industrial engineering. The initiative aligns with the company’s broader strategy of strengthening India’s downstream zinc manufacturing ecosystem and promoting value-added industrial applications. Group Nirmal, a major manufacturer of steel, aluminium and zinc wires, will receive assured raw material linkage and ecosystem support through the partnership.

Zinc wire is a key input for thermal spray coating and metallising processes, where molten zinc is sprayed onto steel surfaces to create anti-corrosion coatings. These coatings are widely used for bridges, railways, transmission towers, ports, pipelines and industrial installations exposed to harsh environmental conditions. According to the company, zinc-based coatings help improve structural longevity, operational reliability and lifecycle maintenance efficiency, making them increasingly important for sustainable infrastructure development. Developed in collaboration with the Rajasthan State Industrial Development and Investment Corporation (RIICO), the Zinc Industrial Park is being developed as a dedicated downstream manufacturing hub integrating raw material availability with value-added zinc production. The project is also expected to strengthen domestic supply chains, attract investments across zinc-based industries and support industrial growth and employment generation in Rajasthan.
