University of Oxford research shows that the PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation) platform facilitates faster implementation of significant infrastructure projects in India. The research examined the effect that scheduled, top-level leadership reviews have had on the sector and found that PRAGATI has helped eliminate inter-departmental barriers, provide greater accountability, and support timely decision-making. PRAGATI facilitates better coordination and reduces execution timelines by connecting central ministries, state governments, and project stakeholders.
The research additionally indicated that the structure of the platform’s review process has contributed to quantifiable gains in terms of project completion timelines and associated cost-effectiveness. Through continuous monitoring and direct intervention, the platform enables quicker resolution of issues related to land acquisition, obtaining permits and approvals from relevant authorities, and securing financial support from lending institutions. As such, the overall findings demonstrate that PRAGATI is an effective governance mechanism to bolster India’s infrastructure delivery system, thereby enhancing the growth rate of the Indian economy through the timely completion of projects. Overall, the research concludes that PRAGATI represents an effective and scalable governance innovation that strengthens India’s infrastructure delivery framework. By improving project completion rates and reducing cost overruns, the platform contributes directly to higher economic productivity and more efficient public spending. The findings reinforce PRAGATI’s role as a catalyst for infrastructure-led growth and a model for outcome-oriented governance aligned with India’s long-term development objectives.
