Union Minister of Food Processing Industries, Mr. Chirag Paswan, at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting, pitched for expanding India’s processed food sector into international markets, emphasizing its vast growth potential. He entrusted with the food processing ministry by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, sees this as a major responsibility in supporting India's agricultural economy. He highlighted that India’s food processing industry can play a pivotal role in enhancing the livelihood of farmers and fostering rural entrepreneurship, particularly through post-harvest solutions that have seen significant development over the past decade.
He noted the growing global appreciation of Indian flavours, particularly spices, which have long been celebrated worldwide. He pointed to the increasing demand for processed foods, with exports growing from 13-14% to 23-24% over the past decade. This reflects the sector’s potential for substantial international growth. His mission is to elevate Indian food brands globally, ensuring they receive the recognition they deserve on the international stage. By targeting the growing demand for processed foods worldwide, he believes that India can further strengthen its position in the global food processing market and contribute significantly to the country's vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047.
