Hyundai India to have 5 new EVs by 2030, launch first electric SUV in 2024

Hyundai Motor India has expressed plans to accelerate its foray into the electric vehicle (EV) market, announcing the introduction of five new EV models by 2030, two years ahead of its initial schedule. As part of this strategy, the company's Chennai plant is slated to commence production of its maiden electric sports utility vehicle by the conclusion of 2024, marking a significant shift from its prior projection of five EVs by 2032.

Furthermore, Hyundai India has solidified its commitment to localizing production by partnering with Exide, network, Hyundai India aims to bolster the EV infrastructure by expanding the number of charging stations to 485 by the end of the decade.

These initiatives were disclosed during the visit of Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung to India, where he engaged in his inaugural overseas town hall meeting with Hyundai Motor India employees. Kia India, a subsidiary of the Hyundai group, is poised to commence local production of its EV offerings in 2025, with subsequent expansion plans in the pipeline. A key focus for Kia India will be the development of EV charging infrastructure to support its burgeoning electric vehicle portfolio.
