IIT Kanpur files record 122 IPRs in 2023

The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) announced a noteworthy achievement, filing a record 122 intellectual property rights (IPRs) in 2023 and boasting an impressive licensing rate of approximately 14% with industry partners. This accomplishment underscores IIT Kanpur's commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation, bringing the institution's total IPR filings to an impressive 1,039 to date.

Among the 122 IPRs filed last year, the diverse portfolio includes 108 patents, four design registrations, three copyrights, and one trademark application. Additionally, four US patents and two Chinese patents were secured. Notably, 167 IPRs were granted, and 15 technologies were successfully licensed during the same period.

These patents span various domains, showcasing IIT Kanpur's expertise in MedTech and nanotechnology. The inventions encompass innovative healthcare solutions, such as a portable medical suction device and a continuous lung health monitoring system. Other notable patents cover solid-state sodium-ion batteries and an affordable Braille learning device for the blind and visually impaired. This impressive record attests to IIT Kanpur's dedication to advancing technology and making meaningful contributions to diverse fields.
