More than Rs. 40,000 crore (US$ 5.26 billion) in grants has been released to States/UTs in the current financial year 2021-22 based on production in terms of providing household tap water connections and usage of available Central grants with matching State share. The Central government has increased the funding for the Jal Jeevan Mission for 2022-23 to Rs. 60,000 crore (US$ 7.89 billion), demonstrating the importance of the 'Har Ghar Jal' programme.
During the current financial year, more than 2.06 Crore rural households have been provided tap water connection. Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Dadar & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Goa, Haryana, Puducherry, and Telangana are now 'Har Ghar Jal' States/UTs, with tap water available to every home in 106 districts and 1.45 lakh villages across the country. Since the introduction of the Jal Jeevan Mission on August 15, 2019, more than 6 crore families have been given with tap water connections, bringing the total number of tap water connections in rural homes in the country from 3.23 crore (17%) to more than 9.35 crore (48.4%). To ensure that all 6 lakh villages become "Har Ghar Jal" by 2024, the "speed and scale" of the work being done to provide safe drinking water to every rural family must be maintained.
Women are also the members of the Pani Samiti and Surveillance Committee and are in charge of the water supply system's planning, maintenance, operation, and management. As of today, 4.78 lakh Pani Samiti have been formed and over 3.91 lakh Village Action Plans has been prepared.
