Incubators are Key Pillar of Successful Startup Ecosystem: NITI Aayog

Incubators play a critical role in strengthening India’s startup ecosystem by supporting entrepreneurs with infrastructure, mentorship, funding access and market linkages, according to NITI Aayog. Speaking at a regional innovation event in Mohali, Mr. Deepak Bagla, Mission Director, Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, stated that incubators are among the key pillars driving the growth and scaling of innovative startups across the country. The event brought together stakeholders from government, industry, academia, incubators and startup communities to strengthen collaboration and build a robust regional innovation network. The initiative focused on enhancing state-centred cooperation and promoting innovation-led entrepreneurship across northern states and Union Territories (UTs), including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttarakhand and Delhi.

The discussions highlighted the importance of fostering inclusive entrepreneurship and accelerating innovation through stronger partnerships among governments, academic institutions, industry leaders and startups. One of the major highlights of the event was the launch of the Punjab & Jammu and Kashmir Incubation Consortium-PI-RAHI, aimed at strengthening regional innovation partnerships and creating opportunities for startups and youth across both states. Participants also deliberated on strengthening incubation ecosystems, scaling state-led innovation initiatives and enabling innovation-driven economic growth across emerging sectors. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader focus on promoting entrepreneurship, supporting startup incubation infrastructure and advancing India’s innovation-led growth journey under programmes such as Startup India and the Atal Innovation Mission.
