India achieved a record renewable energy capacity addition of approximately 30 Gigawatts (GW) in 2024, marking a 113% increase from the 13.75 GW added in 2023, according to the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy. This growth is crucial to India’s ambitious goal of reaching 500 GW renewable energy capacity by 2030. To meet this target, the country must continue adding an average of 50 GW of renewable energy capacity annually over the next six years. The exponential growth from 13.75 GW in 2023 to nearly 30 GW in 2024, bringing the total capacity to 218 GW, highlights India’s commitment to clean energy and sustainable development.
Since 2014, India’s renewable energy capacity has grown significantly, with the highest addition recorded at 18.48 GW in FY24. The government is focused on increasing renewable energy capacity. It plans to add 50 GW annually to meet its 2030 target. This momentum underscores India’s progress in transitioning to a greener and more sustainable energy future, positioning the country as a leader in renewable energy development.
