India aims to establish its own space station by 2035 and achieve a crewed lunar landing by 2040, Member of Parliament, Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur said on National Space Day while addressing students in Una. He highlighted that under Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s leadership, India achieved historic milestones such as the Chandrayaan-3 mission in 2023, becoming the first nation to land near the Moon’s southern pole. He credited India’s scientific community for these achievements, backed by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s vision and encouragement during both successes and setbacks.
He noted that India’s space sector, unlocked for private participation in 2014, is projected to expand from Rs. 69,976 crore (US$ 8 billion) to Rs. 3,84,868 crore (US$ 44 billion) in the coming years. He said the country’s space budget has risen from Rs. 5,615 crore (US$ 642 million) in 2013-14 to Rs. 13,416 crore (US$ 1.53 billion) at present. He also highlighted achievements in space docking, reusable launch vehicle testing, and the approval of Rs. 20,193 crore (US$ 2.31 billion) for the Gaganyaan mission, signalling India’s strong commitment to becoming a global leader in space exploration.
