India and Australia have strengthened their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership by signing a series of landmark agreements spanning defence, energy security, critical minerals and advanced technologies during the third Australia-India Annual Leaders' Summit in Melbourne. Following delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and Australian Prime Minister Mr. Anthony Albanese, both countries signed a Joint Declaration on Defence and Security Cooperation and adopted a Maritime Security Collaboration Roadmap to promote a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific. The two sides also finalised the administrative arrangement for the long-term supply of Australian uranium to India, reinforcing cooperation in clean energy and energy security. In addition, India and Australia agreed to establish a dedicated Critical Minerals Corridor to strengthen resilient supply chains and support the growing demand for minerals essential to clean energy technologies, electric vehicles and advanced manufacturing. The leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening strategic cooperation across the Indo-Pacific region.
Economic and technology cooperation also received a significant boost as both countries agreed to fast-track negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA), building on the strong trade momentum generated by the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA). The discussions followed a high-level India-Australia CEOs Forum and covered collaboration in critical technologies, cybersecurity, supply chains and space. Both sides operationalised the Australia-India Partnership for Cyber Critical Technologies and Supply Chains (AI PACTS), while Australia extended support for India's Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme. The leaders also reaffirmed the importance of the Quad in promoting regional security, counter-terrorism and disaster relief. The expanded partnership is expected to strengthen bilateral trade, investment, technology collaboration and strategic resilience while advancing shared objectives for sustainable growth, secure supply chains and long-term stability across the Indo-Pacific.
