India and France have underscored the need for democratised access to Artificial Intelligence (AI) resources and the importance of building capacity while recognising the necessity of techno-legal frameworks. During a roundtable session at the Sciences Po (Institut d'études politiques de Paris) campus in Paris, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Indian Government, Mr. Ajay Kumar Sood, emphasized the potential for collaboration between India and France in policy positions and technological initiatives, aiming to benefit both countries and the global community. The session, part of the AI Action Summit, focused on fostering responsible AI development, equitable benefit sharing, and ensuring safe AI governance.

Key discussions included the development of sovereign AI models, ethical AI deployment, and the creation of globally accepted terminologies and standards. The roundtable participants explored collaborations on multilingual large language models (LLMs), federated AI compute infrastructure, and enhancing access to AI research, datasets, and high-performance computing. Sustainable AI practices, energy-efficient computing, and cross-border cooperation in AI research and startups were highlighted. The meeting also touched upon AI’s societal impact, data governance, and the role of international institutions in shaping safety frameworks for AI.
