India and Ghana have exchanged two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to strengthen cooperation in scientific research, academics, capacity building, agricultural research and education. The agreements were exchanged during External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar’s visit to Ghana, in the presence of Ghana’s Foreign Minister Mr. Sam Okudzeto Ablakwa. One MoU covers cooperation between the Zoological Survey of India and the University of Ghana in academics, scientific research and capacity building, while the other provides for collaboration between the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Ghana’s CSIR-Crops Research Institute in agricultural research and education.
The MoU exchange followed wide-ranging discussions on strengthening the India-Ghana Comprehensive Partnership, covering trade, investment, development, pharmaceuticals, capacity building, defence, technology and people-to-people ties. The discussions also covered strengthening multilateral cooperation and deepening India’s engagement with the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Earlier, the External Affairs Minister met Ghanaian President Mr. John Dramani Mahama. The visit is part of a three-nation tour covering Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia, during which bilateral meetings are scheduled with counterparts and leadership of the three countries to review and further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation. The agreements are expected to support greater institutional collaboration in scientific research, education and agriculture between India and Ghana.
