India and Oman agree upon programme of scientific and technological cooperation

Under a Programme of Cooperation (POC) in the disciplines of Science and Technology, India and Oman would collaborate in areas such as sustainability and scientific resource utilisation. Medicinal Plants and Processing, Real-time Air Quality Monitoring, Development of an electronic platform for knowledge sharing in the field of Genetic Resources, Technical expertise for SMEs in the field of sustainability (Eco-Innovate) Accelerator, Plastic Bio-fuel, and Bio-diesel Research (Example: Low-temperature Bio-diesel production, Extraction of high-value products from produced ethanol) are the areas of cooperation identified based on the POC for the period 2022–2025.

On March 23, 2022, the POC document was signed during a bilateral meeting between Dr S Jaishankar, Union Minister of External Affairs of the Government of India, and Mr Sayyid Badr Albusaidi, Foreign Minister of Oman. Both governments would finance joint scientific initiatives based on mutual interests that are established jointly by Indian and Omani institutes under the terms of the agreement. They will promote the exchange of scientists, researchers, experts, and professionals in order to carry out selected cooperative projects targeted at generating useful technologies. This will lead to the dissemination of research findings and the establishment of relationships with the industry for the continuation of R&D projects. During the period 2022–2025, the countries will organise at least one workshop per year, alternately in India and Oman, in mutually agreeable locations.
