India and the United States have advanced discussions on strengthening bilateral trade and deepening economic cooperation, reflecting the growing importance of the partnership amid evolving global trade dynamics. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Mr. Piyush Goyal held high-level meetings with US Trade Representative Ambassador Mr. Jamieson Greer in New Delhi to review progress on ongoing trade negotiations and explore new avenues for collaboration. The discussions focused on key areas of the proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA), including enhanced market access, digital trade, supply chain resilience, reduction of non-tariff barriers and cooperation in strategic sectors. Both sides reiterated their commitment to expanding bilateral trade, fostering innovation and building trusted supply chains to support long-term economic growth, investment and economic resilience.
The India-US economic relationship continues to strengthen, with total goods trade between the two countries reaching Rs. 14.09 lakh crore (US$ 149.40 billion) in 2025. US exports to India stood at Rs. 4.30 lakh crore (US$ 45.60 billion), while imports from India reached Rs. 9.79 lakh crore (US$ 103.80 billion), reflecting strong growth in bilateral commerce. The discussions also highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation in emerging sectors, improving trade facilitation and enhancing business opportunities for enterprises in both countries. As India and the US continue to expand economic engagement, the proposed trade agreement is expected to support greater market access, boost investment flows, strengthen supply chain integration and contribute to the shared objective of building a more resilient, competitive and innovation-driven economic partnership.
