India assumes the Chairmanship of the Asian Productivity Organization at 67th Governing Body meeting in Jakarta

India has officially assumed the Chairmanship of the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) for the 2025–26 term during the 67th Session of the Governing Body Meeting (GBM) held from May 20 to May 22, 2025, in Jakarta, Indonesia. The Indian delegation is led by the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), and APO Director for India, Mr. Amardeep Singh Bhatia. As Chair, India reaffirmed its dedication to advancing APO Vision 2030 and enhancing the Green Productivity 2.0 framework. It also stressed the need for regional cooperation to foster digital transformation, innovation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.
India highlighted its intent to support inclusive and result-oriented APO programmes that tackle productivity and development challenges in the Asia-Pacific. Each year, over 100 Indian professionals benefit from APO-led capacity-building initiatives facilitated through the National Productivity Council (NPC) under DPIIT. These initiatives have driven improvements in productivity across India’s industrial, services, and agricultural sectors. Demonstration projects focusing on Green Productivity and Industry 4.0 for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are already operational nationwide. The APO, headquartered in Tokyo and established in 1961, is an intergovernmental body promoting productivity enhancement in the Asia-Pacific through cooperation. It comprises 21 member economies, including India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Vietnam, and others. The GBM is the APO’s highest decision-making authority. It is hosted annually to set strategic priorities and review the Secretariat’s performance.
