On April 21, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi said that India's transition from its 75th year of independence to its centennial in 2047 cannot be taken lightly and should be viewed as a watershed moment in the country's history.

He said that India’s Amrit Kaal is more than a celebration of the last seven decades. India may have settled into a rhythm after 70-75 years of independence, but India going from 75 to 100 years of independence in 2047 cannot be considered routine.

"Our Amrit Mahotsav should mark a turning point. The next 25 years should be considered as a single time unit, not as (separate) pieces," said Mr. Modi, in a speech to civil servants on the 15th Civil Services Day.

The Prime Minister went on to say that civil workers' first obligation is to maintain the country's unity and integrity. He also praised the work of young entrepreneurs, claiming that in the first quarter of 2022, India saw 14 unicorns.

Many major reforms have been undertaken in the country over the last eight years, he noted, which have "behavioural change" at their core.

Mr. Modi presented the Prime Minister's Awards for Excellence in Public Administration for "effective implementation of identified priority programmes and innovation." He also awarded 16 awards for five designated Priority Programs as well as advances in public administration and service delivery.
