India- Australia FTA to open new job opportunities

India and Australia recently signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) which will strengthen the two countries bilateral relations as and when it comes into effect on 29 December 2022. According to Ms. Fiona Wong, Partner at Gilton Valeo Lawyers and Corporate Immigration Lawyer, the Australia-India Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (AI-ECTA) has the potential to promote interpersonal connections, cultural exchange, support trade as well as business between Australia and India.

The India-Australia FTA has the possibility of facilitating easier movement of skilled manpower, promotion of technical services by Indian firms, bridging of employment-skill gap in Australia, promoting Australian tourism and enhancing the reciprocal exchange of knowledge between the two countries.

Ms. Fiona Wong also emphasized that this trade agreement will open up enriching opportunities for immigration as well as visa processes in Australia, especially in sectors such as technology, telecommunications and engineering. Furthermore, this agreement will combine India’s technology, talent pool and manufacturing abilities with Australia’s land, agricultural and natural resources as well as its infrastructure, thereby, contributing to the economic development of both countries.
