According to Australian Foreign Minister Ms. Penny Wong, Australia and India have decided to increase their diplomatic presences, with Australia reaffirming its commitment to opening a consulate general in Bengaluru and India preparing to open a second consulate in Australia.
Quad partners, and most importantly, Australia and India have a common interest in the Indo-Pacific area. A peaceful, successful region where sovereignty is respected is something that all countries share an interest in.
The need to ensure a free, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific has come up in discussions between India, the US, and a number of other world powers against the backdrop of China's expanding military manoeuvring in the region.
