India has become Suzuki Motor Corporation's second country, after Japan, to surpass the milestone of producing 3 crore units, achieved in just 40 years and 4 months since commencing production in December 1983. Maruti Suzuki India, Suzuki's subsidiary, accomplished this feat by March 2024, outpacing the record set in Japan by 15 years. The journey began with the Maruti 800, the inaugural model produced by Maruti Udyog Ltd, a joint venture between Suzuki and the Indian Government. Presently, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) operates manufacturing facilities in Gurugram, Manesar (Haryana), and Hansalpur (Gujarat), contributing significantly to the nation's automotive landscape.

With India emerging as the world's third-largest passenger vehicle market, Maruti Suzuki India is poised for further expansion. Managing Director & CEO, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi announced plans to boost annual production capacity to 4 million units by FY31, with investments in two new greenfield manufacturing plants in Haryana and Gujarat. Additionally, the company aims to expand its range of models from 18 to 28 by FY31, reinforcing its commitment to meeting the evolving demands of Indian consumers and strengthening its position in the global automotive industry.
