India believes in multilateralism,” says Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi at FIPIC Summit, emphasises Indo-Pacific cooperation

While co-chairing the 3rd India-Pacific Islands Cooperation Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit in Papua New Guinea, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi stated that India believes in multilateralism and supports a free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific, adding, "You can count on India as a reliable partner."

During his remarks at the meeting, Mr. Narendra Modi stated that the Pacific Island nations should be viewed as "large ocean countries" rather than "small island states.

"PM Mr. Narendra Modi and Papua New Guinea's Prime Minister, Mr. James Marape, co-chaired the 3rd India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit. There were 14 Pacific Island Countries (PICs) present at the summit.

During his statement at the FIPIC Summit, Mr. Narendra Modi declared that India is willing to share its expertise and talents with Pacific Island countries without reservation or hesitation.

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi engaged with his counterpart from Papua New Guinea in a bilateral meeting in Port Moresby. The conversations included a wide range of cooperation topics, including commerce, technology, healthcare, and climate change. Prime Minister Mr. Modi appreciated the meetings as constructive, emphasising that they covered the entire range of India-Papua New Guinea bilateral relations.

Additionally, both leaders released a Tok Pisin translation of the Tamil classic "Thirukkural" in Papua New Guinea. The book launch was co-hosted by the Prime Ministers of India and Papua New Guinea, and it was co-authored by Mr. Subha Sasindran and West New Britain Province Governor, Mr. Sasindran Muthuvel.
