India and Brazil have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation during the eighth Joint Defence Committee meeting held in Brasília on July 30, 2025. The discussions, led by Joint Secretary (International Cooperation), Mr. Vishwesh Negi, and Deputy Chief of Policy and Strategy, Major General, Mr. Willain Koji Kamei, focused on expanding military collaboration, joint training initiatives, and boosting defence industry ties. The dialogue also included strategic exchanges on regional security in the Indo-Pacific and Latin American regions, highlighting a growing convergence between the two countries on global security priorities.
On the sidelines of the meeting, he met with the Chief of the Joint Staff of the Brazilian Armed Forces, Fleet Admiral Mr. Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire. India’s Ambassador to Brazil, Dr. Dinesh Bhatia, was also present during the interaction. The meeting marked a continuation of efforts to deepen defence engagements between the two nations and aligns with India’s broader push to enhance strategic partnerships across key global regions, particularly considering shifting geopolitical dynamics and the increasing importance of defence industrial cooperation.
