India and Brazil have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cooperation in telecommunications and information and communications technologies (ICTs), marking a significant step towards strengthening bilateral digital collaboration. The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 12th BRICS Communications Ministers Meeting in Pune by Union Minister of Communications Mr. Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Brazil’s Minister of Communications Mr. Frederico de Siqueira Filho. The MoU seeks to advance digital innovation, strengthen digital infrastructure and promote cooperation in emerging technologies. Key areas of collaboration include universal connectivity, cybersecurity, digital public infrastructure, capacity building and exchange of best practices. The agreement provides a structured framework for cooperation in telecommunications, digital infrastructure and new-age technologies while supporting the development of a secure, inclusive and resilient digital ecosystem in both countries.
The partnership will facilitate the exchange of knowledge, technical expertise and best practices and encourage cooperation in research, innovation and development of emerging communication technologies. India and Brazil will also strengthen coordination in international telecommunications and technology forums, including discussions around digital public infrastructure and international telecom standards. The agreement assumes added significance as India holds the BRICS Chairship in 2026, with digital transformation, trusted technology and inclusive connectivity emerging as important areas of cooperation among member countries. The MoU builds on discussions between the two countries on strengthening cooperation in telecommunications and digital infrastructure and complements the broader India-Brazil strategic partnership covering trade and investment, agriculture, energy, science and technology, digital cooperation and cybersecurity. The enhanced collaboration is expected to support digital innovation, strengthen technological capabilities and contribute to a more inclusive and secure digital future.
