Union Finance Minister, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman, on September 26, 2026, said India could achieve economic growth of more than 10%, stressing the need for greater adoption of technology and innovation across sectors. Speaking at a fireside chat organised by the IIT Madras Alumni Association in Bengaluru, she said higher economic growth would support India's progress towards Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat, while requiring greater efforts from all stakeholders. She also highlighted the growth of startups since 2015 and their potential to make a significant contribution to the economy in the coming years. The minister emphasised the need to recognise developments taking place across the country and encourage wider adoption of technology and innovation.

Technology is also playing an increasing role in agriculture by connecting producers with markets and improving productivity. Technological interventions are being used to accelerate harvesting, prepare land for subsequent crops and support precision mapping through drones and aerial geospatial instruments. Ms. Sitharaman also cited Point-of-Sale (POS) machines being pilot tested for fertiliser distribution, which record details related to farmers, land and crops and provide information on the quantity of fertiliser that may be sufficient based on soil, irrigation and crop conditions. She noted that farmers would continue to have a choice in purchasing fertilisers, while technology could help address excessive use of fertilisers and pesticides that can affect soil and water. Wider adoption of such technologies and innovations across sectors could support productivity and contribute to India's economic growth.
