Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman informed the Lok Sabha that India continues to be the top recipient of FDI, and that Indian retail investors have built the capacity to absorb the shock caused by outflows of foreign funds from the country's stock markets.

Foreign investments must be assessed, not merely by looking at FIIs and FPIs, which are dependent on interest rates and "go up and down" by their very nature.

She was explaining the pattern of "steadily" dropping investment by foreign investors, owing to the fact that foreign investors have withdrawn out over Rs. 1.14 lakh crore (US$ 15.09 billion) from the Indian market so far.
