India's data centre industry is entering a major expansion phase, with 3,860 MW of additional capacity expected across the country's leading markets by 2030, according to Cushman and Wakefield's India Data Centre H1 2026 Update. India's top seven data centre markets added 178 MW of capacity during the first half of 2026, taking total operational capacity to 1,789 MW, with 509 MW currently under construction and 3,351 MW in the planning stage. India currently has 147 data centres operated by 33 providers, with colocation vacancy at 14.9% in H1 2026. Mumbai remains the largest market with 890 MW of operational capacity and 1,726 MW of upcoming supply, followed by Hyderabad, Chennai, Delhi NCR, Pune, Bengaluru and Kolkata, which together are driving a more geographically distributed expansion.
India is expected to require around Rs. 2.84 lakh crore (US$ 29.9 billion) in development capital through 2030, part of a larger Asia Pacific expansion where total capacity is projected to grow 2.7 times, requiring more than Rs. 26.59 lakh crore (US$ 280 billion) in capital expenditure, with around 77% of this, roughly Rs. 20.42 lakh crore (US$ 215 billion), expected across Japan, Malaysia, Australia, India and Indonesia. Mr. Gautam Saraf, Executive Managing Director, Mumbai and New Business, Cushman and Wakefield, said the Indian data centre ecosystem is expanding in both scale and depth, supported by a broader mix of operators, occupiers and locations, with nearly 3.9 GW of additional capacity expected to support the next phase of cloud adoption, AI deployment and data-driven growth.
