In a major boost to its global agricultural standing, India has been designated as the 'Country of the Year' at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for organic products, held from February 10 to 13, 2026, in Nuremberg, Germany. This prestigious role marks India's return to the center stage after 14 years and coincides with the recently concluded EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations. This landmark pact is expected to catalyze a significant surge in Indian organic exports across European and global markets. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is leading India’s most ambitious participation yet, showcasing the nation’s diverse and sustainable agricultural ecosystem.
The India Country Pavilion spans a massive 1,074 square metres and features 67 co-exhibitors, including innovative exporters, Farmer-Producer Organisations (FPOs), and state government bodies. Representatives from more than 20 states and Union Territories, such as Assam, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttarakhand, are showcasing a vast range of organic produce, including high-value rice, spices, oilseeds, herbs, and essential oils. To highlight India’s rich agricultural heritage, visitors are offered curated tastings of aromatic biryani and five Geographical Indication (GI) tagged rice varieties, including Chak Hao (Black rice) and Gobindbhog rice. This engagement effectively positions India as a premier destination for high-quality, certified organic food products, fostering new business-to-business (B2B) partnerships and strengthening international trade ties for a greener future.
