As its capacity to deliver humanitarian help and disaster relief to its citizens as well as regional partners has expanded in recent years, India has emerged as a regional power and a net security provider in the Indo-Pacific, according to Minister of Defence, Mr. Rajnath Singh.
According to Mr. Singh, India is working with a number of partners as part of the SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) initiative, which Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has envisioned, to secure economic growth and security in the region while addressing challenges like natural catastrophes. He was addressing the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercise 'Samanvay 2022'.
He noted that Asia, especially the Indo-Pacific area, is susceptible to the effects of climate change and expressed optimism that the "Samanvay 2022" will further improve disaster management capacities thanks to the engagement of national stakeholders with friendly nations. He emphasised the need for an empowered apparatus to facilitate the distribution of information to a bigger population and the relocation of people to safer areas in order to foresee natural disasters. He emphasised the need for cooperative disaster preparation because different nations have diverse capacities.
