A high-level delegation from the European Union (EU) visited New Delhi from November 3 to 7, 2025, to advance negotiations with Indian counterparts on the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA). The week-long discussions aimed to build on the progress made so far and strengthen efforts toward a comprehensive and mutually beneficial trade partnership. Talks covered several key areas, including trade in goods and services, investment, trade and sustainable development, rules of origin, and technical trade barriers.
Commerce Secretary Mr. Rajesh Agrawal held extensive meetings with the Director-General for Trade, European Commission, Ms. Sabine Weyand, on November 5 and 6, 2025, to review progress across negotiating tracks. Both sides agreed to accelerate efforts for a balanced outcome that supports economic growth and inclusive development. Mr. Rajesh Agrawal reaffirmed India’s commitment to ensuring fair trade and called for clarity and predictability in implementing EU regulatory measures such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the proposed steel regulation. The two sides expressed satisfaction with the progress achieved, noting convergence on several areas, and emphasised continued technical-level engagement to bridge remaining gaps. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to conclude an ambitious, forward-looking FTA that enhances trade, strengthens economic resilience, and promotes sustainable and inclusive growth between India and the EU.
