Mango exports from India increased by 19% in the first five months of the current fiscal year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA).

Mango exports from India reached a value of US$ 47.98 million, up from US$ 40.33 million in the same period last year. Mango exports totalling 27,330.02 million tonnes (MT) were made possible by APEDA in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare during April-August 2023.

India’s mango exports to the USA increased by 19% in just the first five months, reaching 2,043.60 MT. Further, India also exported mangoes to Japan (43.08 MT), New Zealand (110.99 MT), Australia (58.42 MT), and South Africa (4.44 MT) in addition to the USA.

Additionally, India expanded its mango exports to 41 countries by exploring new markets in Nigeria, the Czech Republic, Mauritius, and Iran.

Inspectors from the Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) were invited by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and APEDA for preclearance of mangoes at irradiation facilities in Vashi, Nashik, Bangalore, and Ahmedabad in order to increase mango exports in the 2023 season.

Mango preclearance was extended to South Korean inspectors, allowing India to export 18.43 MT of mangoes after treatment at authorised vapour heat treatment facilities. In an effort to boost exports, APEDA showcased Indian mangoes at the Seoul Food & Hotel Show. Bahrain received 75 eastern mango varieties from APEDA, including five kinds with Geographical Indication (GI tags), in observance of India's 75th anniversary of independence (Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav).

In collaboration with Indian Missions, mango promotion events were conducted across the globe. One such event was a mango tasting in Brussels that showcased the Amrapalli, Banganapalli, Kesar, and Himsagar varieties of mangos.

APEDA also hosted a mango promotion programme in Malaysia in 2023, showcasing Banganapalli and Kesar mangoes. Similar activities were carried out with the Indian embassies in Kuwait and Afghanistan.
