India exported telecom gear worth US$ 842.5 million (Rs. 6,911 crore) till May 31: Mr. Devusinh Chauhan

As of May 31, 2023, companies selected under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme have exported telecom equipment worth US$ 842.5 million (Rs. 6,911 crore), the government announced on July 26, 2023.

The scheme was introduced on February 24, 2021, to promote design-led manufacturing in the nation as well as domestic manufacturing of certain telecom and networking products, including 4G and 5G products.

The Minister of State for Communications, Mr. Devusinh Chauhan stated that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-run company, has started deploying India's own 4G/5G technology stacks.

The government has implemented a number of initiatives, such as the PLI scheme, a telecom technology development fund scheme, and the digital communication innovation square (DCIS) under the champion services sector scheme, to promote the ecosystem for research and development and make India a global manufacturing hub.

According to Mr. Devusinh Chauhan, 281,948 5G sites have been set up by telecom carriers so far in relation to 5G services. Further, Reliance Jio has established 228,689 5G sites, while Bharti Airtel has established 53,223 sites. Additionally, Vodafone Idea has established 36 5G sites in Pune and Delhi
