The All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA) mentioned in a statement that sugar mills have exported 9.39 lakh tonnes of sugar till December 6, 2021, during the ongoing marketing year 2021-22 that runs from October to September. About 4.68 lakh tonnes is in transit. Mills have export deals worth 33 lakh tonnes of sugar without the government subsidy in this marketing year.
Indian mills are not rushing to sell sugar as previous sales are yet to be executed in addition to the sluggish sugar price trend. Mills in Maharashtra have got the highest exports deals. Mills in this state are facing logistics issues such as transportation problems by road and rail. In the marketing year 2020-21, India exported 7.23 lakh tonnes of sugar out of which, majority were with the help of government subsidies.
