India has delivered the second battery of its supersonic BrahMos missile system to the Philippines, marking a significant milestone in its defence exports. The shipment, part of a Rs. 3,202 crore (US$ 375 million) deal signed in 2022, is being transported via sea. The BrahMos missile, developed through a collaboration between India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Russia's NPO Mashinostroyenia, is capable of flying at nearly three times the speed of sound (Mach 2.8) and can be launched from land, sea, and air. The missile is undergoing a process where 83% of its components are indigenised.

The Philippines is the first nation to sign an agreement with India to import BrahMos. However, other countries, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, UAE, Chile, and South Africa, have also shown interest in acquiring the missile. This development signals a strategic shift in defence diplomacy, particularly in regions where China is dominant. The growing interest from other nations highlights the potential for India to play a larger role in global arms exports.
