Union Agricultural Minister Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar stated that wheat worth US$ 1.42 billion (Rs 11,728.36 crore) was exported during the months of April to January in FY23. Although the export was banned, the government has declared wheat export will be allowed in case of shipments when the Irrevocable Letter Of Credit (ILOC) has been granted on or before May 13.

According to second advance estimates for the agricultural year 2022-23, the country's wheat production is expected to be 112.18 million tonnes, which is 4.44 million tonnes more than the production achieved during the crop year 2021-22 (July-June).

It is determined that the wheat crop status is normal based on surveys performed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Indian Institute of Wheat & Barley Research (IIWBR), Karnal in collaboration with State Agricultural Universities (SAUs) and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVKs). Weekly advisories are issued to farmers by ICAR-IIWBR, and KVKs, SAUs, and state agriculture administrations receive the information as well.
