India, Germany agree to work together with focus on AI, startups

On April 3, India and Germany agreed to collaborate in the areas of artificial intelligence (AI) startups, AI research, and AI applications in sustainability and health care.

During their meeting in Berlin, Minister of Science & Technology, Earth Sciences, Prime Minister’s Office, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy, and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, and Germany's Minister of Education and Research, Ms. Bettina Stark-Watzinger, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing science and technology cooperation between the two countries, which is one of the bilateral relationship's strategic pillars.

Dr. Jitendra Singh stated on the third day of his official visit to Berlin that both countries are currently working in frontier areas of science and technology, such as electric mobility, cyber physical systems, quantum technologies, future manufacturing, green hydrogen fuel, and deep ocean research, and proposed to develop joint cooperation in these areas.

In sectors like artificial intelligence in sustainability and healthcare, the two countries have already begun mapping each other's strengths.

Both Ministers were pleased to learn that several initiatives for human capacity development in science and engineering had recently been developed, including Women Involvement in Science and Engineering Research (WISER), which aims to facilitate lateral entry of women researchers into ongoing S&T projects, and Paired Early Career Fellowships (PECF), which aims to create an inclusive ecosystem for Indo-German S&T cooperation by facilitating the exchange of young researchers on both sides.
