India has the potential to be the number one auto market: Suzuki President

Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki, the President and the Representative Director of Suzuki Motor Corporation, at the Auto Expo 2023, stated that India has the potential to become the number one automotive market in the world and small cars have a major role to play in it.

He said that along with electric vehicles, other technologies like flex fuels, hybrids, and compressed natural gas (CNG) will also help India in its quest for carbon neutrality. He further said that there is a need to strictly follow the basic traffic rules and adequate development of infrastructure to ensure road safety is also needed.

He asserted that Maruti Suzuki and Suzuki, as a group, would like to capture the opportunity of making India the number one market for automobiles in the world. For India, the category of small cars is an important category, as they have the potential to do good in the future, he said. Additionally, it was mentioned that Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) will be supplying products that cater to the requirements of local consumers.

Mr. Toshihiro Suzuki also said that India is significant for SMC - for domestic sales as well as for exports, which doubled in the last five years and crossed over 2.3 lakh units in the last fiscal year.
