India holds bilateral meetings with Germany and Indonesia on enhancing tourism and sustainable travel at ITB Berlin 2026

India strengthened its global tourism outreach by participating in ITB Berlin 2026, held from March 3-5 at Messe Berlin. The event was one of the world’s largest travel trade exhibitions, bringing together tourism stakeholders from across the globe. India’s delegation included destination management companies, tour operators, hoteliers, and representatives from several state governments and Union Territories. The India Pavilion was inaugurated by Union Minister of Tourism and culture Mr. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in the presence of the Indian Ambassador to Germany, Mr. Ajit Gupte. The pavilion highlighted India’s cultural diversity, heritage, and wide range of tourism offerings, including spiritual and wellness tourism, wedding tourism, adventure travel, ecotourism, and culinary experiences. A total of 42 stakeholders co-exhibited at the pavilion, showcasing India’s tourism products and immersive travel experiences to global buyers and industry representatives.
Further, bilateral meetings were held with the Minister of Tourism of Indonesia, H.E. Ms. Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, and Germany’s Federal Government Commissioner for Tourism, Dr. Christoph Ploß, to strengthen tourism cooperation, enhance travel flows, and expand air connectivity. Discussions also focused on sustainable and regenerative tourism, including engagement with the Secretary General, UNWTO, Ms. Shaikha Al Nowais. Germany continues to be a key tourism partner for India, ranking as the eighth-largest source market with around 260,000 foreign tourist arrivals from Germany in 2025. Additionally, the Ministry of Tourism partnered with Netflix to launch two promotional short films highlighting India’s culture and cuisine. Under the collaboration, the ‘Incredible India’ campaign and Netflix will produce ten short videos over the year showcasing India’s destinations, festivals, flavours, wildlife, and adventure tourism to global audiences.
