India hosts more than half of the world’s Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and ranks among the top three artificial intelligence (AI) ecosystems, said Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi. The remarks were made while addressing the NDTV World Summit in New Delhi on October 22, 2026. India remains the fastest-growing major economy and is working to become one of the world’s top three economies. The country is also one of the largest digital economies and the world leader in real-time digital payments. Exports of goods rose nearly 25% year-on-year (YoY) in September, while seafood exports have more than doubled over the past 12 years. More than 3.5 crore women have become Lakhpati Didis, against a target of six crore. Around 70 lakh new jobs have been created under the Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana.

Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi noted that GCCs have expanded beyond support services into AI, cloud computing, engineering, analytics and product development. This marks India’s shift from a “Back Office” to a “Brain Office” for global partners. Nearly 20% of the world’s chip-design workforce is in India, with engineers working on advanced 2-nanometre and 3-nanometre designs. Students at Indian academic institutions have also designed more than 325 chips. India ranks third globally in research publications and recorded nearly 1.5 lakh patent filings in 2025. Under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, domestic production of Penicillin G has resumed at Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, after decades. The PLI scheme for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) has attracted investments exceeding Rs. 5,000 crore (US$ 527.94 million) across around 40 projects.
