India is currently negotiating six Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with several countries and regional blocs as part of its strategy to strengthen global trade partnerships and expand export opportunities. According to the Ministry of Commerce, negotiations are underway with Australia, Sri Lanka, Peru, Chile, Israel, and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), reflecting India’s continued push to deepen economic engagement with both developed and emerging markets. These trade talks aim to enhance market access, reduce tariffs, and facilitate greater investment and technology exchange across sectors.

Among the key negotiations, discussions for the India-Australia Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement (CECA) began in February 2023, with 11 rounds of talks conducted to date. India is also working on the India-Sri Lanka Economic and Technology Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), where negotiations started in 2015 and have completed 14 rounds, with the latest discussions held in July 2024. Talks for the India-Peru Free Trade Agreement were launched in 2017 and have seen nine rounds of negotiations, with the most recent held in November 2025. Meanwhile, India initiated negotiations with Chile for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in April 2025, with four rounds of discussions completed so far. Negotiations have also begun with the Eurasian Economic Union, where the first round was held in November 2025, while discussions for an India-Israel FTA started with the first round in February 2026. These initiatives highlight India’s broader effort to expand trade networks and strengthen economic integration with global markets.
