Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Mr. M.K. Stalin today inaugurated Tata Motors’ passenger vehicles plant in Ranipet, marking a milestone for the Indian auto industry. This is an investment of US$ 991.84 million (Rs. 9,000 crore) and represents India’s formal entry into Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) global manufacturing base, which includes the UK, Austria, China, and Brazil. According to Tata Sons Chairman Mr. N. Chandrasekaran, the facility is expected to produce between 250,000 and 300,000 units annually, including both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Electric Vehicle (EV) products; the Land Rover Evoque was the first vehicle produced at the approach to launch site.
Tata Group's expansion into Tamil Nadu will not only create jobs and support local industries but is also expected to generate 5,000 jobs directly related to this project Mr. T.R.B. Rajaa (Tamil Nadu Minister of Industries) said this investment would stimulate incredible growth rates for ancillary industry growth around Ranipet, where Tata Group has established itself through its subsidiaries like Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tata Power, and Tata Electronics over the past few decades. Additionally, the opening of the new facility will help to develop locally skilled workers via the state's Skill Development Corporation to ensure a sustainable future workforce for cutting-edge automotive manufacturing within Tamil Nadu. India's emergence as a global exporter of high-end luxury vehicles requires an increase in domestic production capacity, thereby providing us with an opportunity to become a worldwide centre of excellence for exporting premium automotive products.
