India, Jamaica agree to boost trade, skilled mobility, healthcare cooperation

India and Jamaica have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation across trade, skilled mobility and healthcare, as highlighted by External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar. The discussions focused on expanding economic engagement and exploring new avenues for collaboration in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, education, digital services and capacity building. The partnership reflects India’s growing outreach to the Caribbean region and its focus on enhancing trade diversification and global economic integration. Both countries emphasised the need to deepen commercial ties and facilitate greater exchange of goods and services, leveraging their complementary strengths. A key area of cooperation is skilled mobility, with both sides working towards facilitating movement of professionals and enhancing workforce collaboration. India’s expertise in healthcare, pharmaceuticals and digital technologies is expected to play a crucial role in supporting Jamaica’s development priorities. The dialogue also highlighted opportunities for collaboration in telemedicine, training programmes and public health infrastructure, strengthening healthcare delivery systems.

Additionally, both nations are exploring mechanisms to improve connectivity, streamline trade processes and promote investment flows, thereby creating a more enabling environment for businesses. Going forward, the enhanced partnership is expected to open new growth opportunities, strengthen people-to-people ties and support capacity-building initiatives. The collaboration aligns with India’s broader strategy of expanding its engagement with developing economies and fostering sustainable development through knowledge sharing and technological cooperation.
