The 7th India–Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) Joint Committee Meeting was held in Tokyo, Japan, to review the progress of the bilateral trade agreement and explore opportunities to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries further. The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Rajesh Agrawal, Secretary, Department of Commerce, and the Vice Minister for International Affairs, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Government of Japan. The discussions focused on reviewing the implementation of the CEPA and identifying measures to enhance the effectiveness of the agreement for the benefit of both nations. The engagement reflects the continued commitment of India and Japan to strengthening their economic partnership and expanding bilateral trade relations.
During the meeting, both sides held detailed discussions on issues related to market access, trade facilitation, and improving the utilisation of the CEPA framework. The dialogue also explored opportunities to strengthen bilateral trade, promote investments, and expand cooperation across key sectors. Officials emphasised the importance of addressing trade barriers and improving procedures to enhance the effectiveness of the agreement for businesses in both countries. The discussions also highlighted the growing importance of the India–Japan economic partnership in supporting supply chain resilience, technology collaboration and deeper economic engagement. Such engagements are expected to encourage greater participation of industries in the bilateral trade framework and contribute to strengthening overall economic ties between the two countries.
