India leads and delivers at the WTO 12th Ministerial Conference: Shri Piyush Goyal

India was able to secure a favourable outcome at the WTO after many years, said Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles, Mr. Piyush Goyal, after the conclusion of the WTO 12th Ministerial Conference in Geneva on June 17.

Mr. Goyal described the just finished conference as an "outcome-oriented" triumph, saying the Indian team, led by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, was 100% successful in portraying the top problems for India and other developing countries before the world.

He admitted that when the WTO was established 30 years ago and during the Uruguay Round of negotiations, India and the developing countries accepted certain compromising decisions, but India now bats on the front foot rather than being afraid on various issues such as the environment, startups, MSMEs, and gender equality.

India remains committed to helping the World Food Programme (WFP), according to Mr. Goyal. He claimed that the government has set no export limits on WFP purchases for food security in other countries, citing India's recent wheat exports to Afghanistan, but that domestic food security takes precedence.
