India Leads Globally with Green Hydrogen Offtake Commitments Exceeding 5.5 Lakh MTPA Till October 2026

As of October 2026, Indian companies have signed the world’s largest green hydrogen offtake commitments, totalling 5,55,610 metric tonnes per annum (MTPA). This positions India as the global leader in green hydrogen supply commitments. Since the launch of the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) in 2023, 23 offtake contracts have been signed, of which over 70% are earmarked for exports. In 2026 alone, Indian companies signed 18 new offtake agreements for the supply of over four lakh MTPA of green hydrogen equivalent. These projects are expected to attract total investments of around Rs. 90,000 crore (US$ 9.5 billion). The commitments account for approximately 11% of the NGHM target of producing at least five million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) of green hydrogen by 2030.

Approved with an initial outlay of Rs. 19,744 crore (US$ 2.51 billion), the mission is also expected to add 125 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity and create over six lakh full-time jobs. Notable contracts include ACME Group’s agreement to supply 4,88,000 MTPA of green ammonia to IHI, Japan, and 1,00,000 MTPA of green methanol to Mitsubishi Gas Chemical. Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has entered into a long-term agreement with Samsung C&T Corporation, South Korea, valued at over Rs. 28,412.59 crore (US$ 3 billion). Deliveries under this agreement are expected to begin by 2028. Domestically, agreements have been signed under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) Programme for the supply of 6,70,000 MTPA of green ammonia to 11 fertiliser units.
